1. Clear, Consolidated Order Summary
Issue: Customers often left the checkout due to confusion over order details like cashback, discounts, and surcharges. The need to navigate between multiple screens disrupted their flow and added unnecessary complexity.
Solution: We consolidated the entire order summary on a single, intuitive page. Now, users can see all relevant information—cashback, total order value, discounts, and surcharges—at a glance, allowing them to quickly confirm their purchase without second-guessing.
Impact: By simplifying the checkout experience, we’ve removed a common drop-off point, boosting conversion rates by reducing the cognitive load on customers.
2. Enhanced Transparency on Payment Methods
Issue: Customers were uncertain about any surcharges tied to specific payment methods, causing hesitation and often leading to incomplete transactions.
Solution: The new gateway displays real-time updates for surcharges and cashback amounts based on the chosen payment method. As users select their payment option, the total cost and available cashback adjust automatically, allowing customers to make informed choices easily.
Impact: Transparent pricing builds trust and confidence, reducing surprise fees and ensuring that customers feel comfortable completing their transactions.
3. Streamlined PayID Process for Speed
Issue: PayID payments were cumbersome, with users having to switch between their banking app and the Hello Clever Payment Gateway, adding unnecessary steps and increasing drop-off risk.
Solution: We implemented real-time transaction validation for PayID payments. Now, once the transfer is made, it’s validated automatically, eliminating the need for customers to return to the gateway for confirmation.
Impact: By shortening the PayID process, we’ve made payments faster and more convenient, keeping customers engaged and improving the likelihood of completed transactions.
4. User-Centric Security Measures for Saved Card Details
Issue: Some customers hesitated to save their card details due to privacy concerns, limiting the chances of quick, repeat transactions.
Solution: We introduced a clear, opt-in checkbox that allows users to consent to saving card details, along with a streamlined explanation of our data encryption and security measures.
Impact: By addressing security concerns transparently, we’re able to build user trust, encouraging repeat customers to complete transactions faster and more frequently.
Measuring Success: The Numbers Behind the New Payment Gateway
The ultimate goal of these improvements was to deliver quantifiable value to our merchants. Here’s how our conversion-focused changes have performed:
- 46% Conversion Rate Uplift: Our conversion rates have increased by 46%, with an impressive rise from an average of 54.10% on the old gateway (this is also higher than industry standard) to 79.20% in recent months. This reflects a strong alignment between our design updates and the needs of users.
- 10x Faster Payment Times: Transactions that previously took up to 8 minutes are now completed in seconds, allowing users to complete purchases with minimal friction. This speed has a direct impact on conversion by keeping users in the flow.
- Higher Customer Satisfaction Scores: By improving transparency and simplifying the checkout, we’re seeing higher satisfaction scores, indicating that users are more likely to return and complete future purchases.
